A Flea in Her Ear (La Puce à l’oreille)
A Farce By Georges Feydeau
Paris in the mid-20th century. Raymonde Chandebise, after years of wedded bliss, confides her doubts regarding the fidelity of her husband to her old friend Lucienne and they decide to put him to the test. They write him a letter, in Lucienne’s handwriting, from a fictitious and anonymous admirer, requesting a rendezvous at the dubious La & Li Hotel, where Raymonde intends to confront him.
Victor Emmanuel believes the invitation was meant for his friend Tournel, who, unbeknown to Victor Emmanuel, has his eye on Raymonde.
Victor Emmanuel shows the letter to Lucienne’s husband, Carlos Homenides de Histangua, who recognizes Lucienne’s handwriting, heads off to the hotel, believing his wife is being unfaithful.
All these characters and others meet at the Hotel, where all takes place at a fierce rate of opening and closing doors, spinning rooms, unexpected meetings and mistakes in identities eventually things clear up when all are reunited again at Victor Emmanuel’s house and as all good comedies end – all’s well that ends well.
